Eray Soy – Software Developer

  • August 1, 2022

I started my career at LetsGrow.com as an intern. This is now almost 7 years ago. For my graduation assignment at LetsGrow.com, I composed a prototype, researching the controls in the climate computers and if/how they can be influenced. For this assignment, I used a Raspberry PI (mini computer/board) and developed the software on it.

In addition to my official graduation assignment, I also developed the LetsGrow.com Data App (which is now widely used by our clients). As a starting developer, I found this challenging and cool to do, developing a product that is actually used by our clients.

I always wanted to work at a company where I could make a difference. When my former manager asked me if I wanted to grow with LetsGrow.com, my decision was quickly made. It made me feel very appreciated.

In addition to my official graduation assignment, I also developed the LetsGrow.com Data App. As a starting developer, I found this challenging and cool to do, developing a product that is actually used by our clients.

During my internship, I also learned a lot about programming and development from my colleagues Leon and Edwin, which I found very valuable. They were willing to help me and were always open to questions. I appreciated that immensely as a starting developer.

I also find LetsGrow.com fun and challenging. I was not always working on the same thing (application) and there was quite a lot of variation during my internship. One time I had to change something on the website (solve a problem), another time I was working in the database to add a new functionality to an application.

Nowadays, I have more responsibilities and besides programming and developing, I also do the maintenance of the system itself. After all, LetsGrow.com must run 24/7 without any problems. I am also the point of contact for technical questions from the Service Desk. If questions come in that the Service Desk does not know about, I have to support them. I also pass on my knowledge to new colleagues by helping them if they don't know something or get stuck. When I look back on my internship, my work is quite different from 6-7 years ago. Back then, my work largely consisted of developing existing assignments (user-stories).
